My film, Dorothea Lange: Grab A Hunk of Lightning, has begun to reach audiences around the country, generating great turnout, dynamic provocative discussions, and engaged educational opportunities. I have screened the film for museum-goers, university departments/classes, one-on-one meetings with graduate students in the arts and for history and women’s groups. The energizing exchange has proven the meaningful and educational merits of Grab A Hunk of Lightning.
In order to continue to reach audiences, both in major metropolitan areas AND in those areas less served by universities or museums, I have created the website, and social media platform to contact/inform the multitude of venues and smaller groups who would benefit from seeing my film.
Bringing the arts and history to the people, especially younger people with fewer educational opportunities, is a personal mission, one that Lange and Paul Taylor pursued as well. Staying true to my heritage, I hope to share my grandparents’ story and the important period of American history they inhabited to as many as possible and, as Lange herself said, “to show America to Americans!”
